The Coordinator for the Mat-Su Community Homeless Action Board (CHAB) is responsible for coordinating implementation and forward progress of the Board’s 5-Year Action and Funding Plan to address homelessness in the Mat-Su Borough.
This position provides strategic coordination, administrative support to the Board, and public engagement on homelessness-related issues. The Coordinator works closely with CHAB members, community partners, and regional and statewide organizations to ensure progress toward shared goals, use data to inform decision-making, and communicate the Board’s work to the public.
The Coordinator is housed at Valley Charities and serves as the primary staff support for the Community Homeless Action Board
System Coordination & Strategy
- Coordinate the implementation and ongoing advancement of the CHAB 5-Year Action and Funding Plan.
- Track progress on first-year operating tactics and milestones.
- Facilitate the development of operating tactics for Years 2–5 of the Plan.
- Assist Board members and partner organizations with tasks necessary to advance the Plan’s goals.
- Monitor progress and identify barriers to implementation.
Board & Committee Support -- in conjunction with Valley Charities staff.
- Provide administrative support to the Community Homeless Action Board.
- Schedule Board and committee meetings.
- Prepare agendas, reports, presentations, and supporting materials.
- Record and distribute meeting minutes.
- Support Board committees and working groups as needed.
- Maintain organized records of Board activities and decisions.
Data & Performance Management
- Track and analyze data related to homelessness in the Mat-Su Borough.
- Promote effective use of data tools including the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and Homeless Connect.
- Identify service gaps, trends, and opportunities using data.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and visual presentations of data to inform Board strategy and decision-making.
Public Representation & Community Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Community Homeless Action Board.
- Respond to inquiries from community members, businesses, media, and elected officials.
- Present information about homelessness and CHAB activities at public forums including:

◊Borough Assembly meetings
◊Public hearings and workshops
◊Community meetings and events
- Use data and analysis to help educate the public about housing and homelessness in the Mat-Su Borough.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Funding & Partnerships
- Support the Board in identifying potential funding sources to complete Action Plan goals.
- Assist with coordination of grant opportunities as directed by the Board.
- Network with peers and regional partners working on homelessness solutions.
Education & Outreach
- Educate community partners, government agencies, and the public about homelessness challenges and solutions in the Mat-Su Borough.
- Support community awareness efforts related to housing stability and homelessness prevention.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience living and working in the Mat-Su Borough.
- Current residence in the Mat-Su Borough preferred.
- Familiarity with housing and homelessness issues in Alaska.
- Experience working with coalitions, boards, or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Experience with community planning, public engagement, or program coordination.
