Valley Charities Inc (VCI) is a locally owned non-profit organization serving the residents of Mat Su Valley with various programs since 1956. One such program is our turn-A-leaf Thrift Store. This is a secondhand retail store that receives and processes donated items for sale in our store. This position supports the Thrift Store by receiving and processing gently used clothing, furniture, household goods and assorted other items.
VCI supports our community in many ways and look for employees who are like minded and enjoy helping others by using their experience to enhance the operation of our Thrift Store.
Experience: Previous experience in the following areas is necessary for this position: Warehouse work, minimum of two years, experience moving heavy loads like furniture, prior work with 14 foot box truck, or other large vehicle, moving pallets a plus.
A current drivers license and a clean driving record is required. Clean criminal background check required.
Scope of Work:
This position primary task is moving furniture and pallets of donated items. Furniture is one of the main things you will be required to move into and out of our box truck. Other tasks relating to the productive flow of merchandise sold at our thrift store; helping to maintain an organized warehouse; and providing efficient execution of donation pick-ups. Customer service is a must.
Tasks:
Typical daily work activities will include:
- Respectfully interact with customers, receiving donations, prepare and give tax receipt to donor upon request. You are representing Valley Charities Inc.
- Helping with daily Donation pick-ups, drop off and recycled items.
- Separating donations (Presort and Final sort) based on established guidelines.
- Keeping the warehouse areas orderly, clean, and safe at all times
- Following directions and communicating with other staff clearly and respectfully.
Work Conditions:
- Work environment may have moderate to high traffic and stressful times
- Work environment may require being on your feet up to 8 hours per day.
- Work environment requires bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and crawling.
- Work environment will require outside work, no matter the weather conditions.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have experience working with box trucks or equivalent vehicles, moving pallets and other heavy loads, furniture and boxes.
- Experience with warehouse equipment is preferred.
- Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must enjoy people and excel at customer service
- Must have good organizational and time management skills; and be dependable.
- Must have reliable transportation to/from work, arrive on time and ready to start the day.
- Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds ( moving furniture etc.)
- Must be able to work on weekends. Work is day shift.

Position Start at Part Time
Can become Full Time
Part Time Hours: 20 to 30 hours per week
Full Time Hours: 32 to 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay $15.00 start rate
